Art/DT

Spirituality is promoted throughout the teaching and learning of Art/DT at Barnoldswick Church of England Primary School and the children are encouraged to express themselves through art. Children have the opportunity to explore likes and dislikes, feel new materials, experiment with texture and colour and to produce unique and personal pieces of art. Throughout art, children learn about themselves and who they are in the wider world.  In Art, children can evoke emotions, trigger memories, and unlock hidden aspects of their soul, mind and spirit. Children are encouraged to achieve spiritual experiences for both themselves and the viewer of their artwork.  Examples of this are:

• At the beginning of each year, children are asked to draw a self-portrait.
• Children use scrapbooking techniques to channel their personal thoughts.
• Children understand their preferences in art and can identify how different art pieces make them feel.
• Children show endurance and perseverance in textiles and a huge WOW moment when their projects are complete.
• Children take time to evaluate famous artists work, alongside their own and that of their peers.
