Spirituality is promoted throughout the teaching and learning of English at Barnoldswick Church of England Primary School.  The English curriculum is filled with different aspects of spirituality and many books and units with this in mind. Children at Barnoldswick Church of England Primary School are encouraged to express their spirituality through personal reading, creative writing and drama.  Examples of this are;

  • In EYFS, they study the Rainbow Fish and The Hungry Caterpillar which promotes Belonging and Change.
  • In Year 1, they study Rumpelstiltskin and Traditional Tales which allows them to think about morals and dilemmas.
  • In Year 2, they study The True Story of the three little pigs and Wind in the Willows which allows them to think about Empathy and Fairness.
  • In Year 3, they study The Iron Man and Lancashire Giant which allows them to experience Wonder and Awe and Fairness.
  • In Year 4, they study The Promise and The Pied Piper which allows them to look at ‘The bigger picture’ and Making Choices.
  • In Year 5, they study The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe and Wings of a Butterfly which allows them to be inspired by the natural world.
  • In Year 6, they study Wonder and Macbeth which promotes thoughts and discussions about world issues.
